What we do

MylifE’s work takes marginalized and addicted youth and children and provides them with a second chance through a proven process of healing, life skill development, counselling, education, skills development and job opportunity which gives them back their rightful place in society.

However, we have now reached the point whereby we are overwhelmed by the size of the task ahead and have explored how our experience can be used to design an approach that works on a much larger scale, with higher success rates and with more predictable outcomes. An approach that can also be transported to, and made to work in, other parts of Africa and the world.  Can we ‘industrialise’ the process of youth rehabilitation?  We have been fortunate to have found four South African Industrial Designers who have analysed our work and designed a new, exciting and ‘industrialised’ MylifE approach.

How we plan to do it

We have called this new approach, UBUNTU – a call for participation. The UBUNTU approach uses a positive and uplifting environment, called the UBUNTU Village, for much of the transformation work since the home environment is often a challenge in itself. The approach is also based on positive reinforcement, for example re-generated youth go back into their home communities to effect change at its source, essentially paying forward what they’ve learnt. The new MyLife UBUNTU ‘industrialised’ approach has broken down the reintegration programme into four phases: intervention, cleansing, inner-healing and skills development.
