Our outer-city soccer program was implemented in two locations: KTC – Nyanga & Zwelitsha – Nyanga east. The first tournament was run on an informal level with limited resources. The response and participation was overwhelming. Members from the community also responded well, encouraging us to continue our program as well as expand. A vital aspect of our outer-city program was to include live music during the games as well as live music performances from local artists. We have found that the music at the games helps to attract a large crowd of spectators.

Our outer-city project was reaching around 500 youth with at least 300 youth actively participating in the soccer tournament.  We believe by reaching a further 7 communities we can capacitate an immediate reach of 1800 children and youth participating in the soccer program. We are capable of captivating an audience of around 3000 children and youth whom will be at each tournament.  From the last five tournaments run, we have noticed a growth in both participants and spectators. The spectators range from toddlers to elders.
 

The Streetball Concept

The Street ball concept is all about keeping the kids busy on the weekends, giving them something to do and a platform to exhibit their talents. The proposed structure of this program includes the formation of a tournament which is run every weekend in the identified communities. The program is split into two age groups: Juniors (7 – 15yrs) & Seniors (15yrs +). Additional to the weekly tournament, each age group will attend training sessions twice a week once a training program and structure is in place.

The first project was started in Nyanga and with the necessary funding and infrastructure in place this program can expand and be placed in more communities around the different townships. With more programs happening in different communities a combined tournament can be created whereby teams from each community can come together and compete. Although this is a street soccer program it can grow to become a full-scaled soccer training program which takes place on fields with full-sized teams.
